The text of Celebrai is based on Psalm 100/150. It is voiced for SATB (also available for TTBB) a cappella with
some splits. The rhythms and overall feel of this piece come from the Northern part of Brazil – Bahia.
The rhythmic figure in the lower parts represents a popular Brazilian groove played by an instrument called
“berimbau,” which is commonly used in the Brazilian martial art known as “Capoeira.”
The pattern in the upper parts represents that percussiveness and swing of Brazilian music, emulating
shakers, bass drums, guiro, tambourines, etc.
